Activities To Help The Homeless

Help Lake Anne Students this Winter

At Lake Anne Elementary School, not all students have winter essentials to keep their hands, heads, arms and legs warm. You can help by donating new or gently used clothing and boots.

Suggested Donations:

  • gloves
  • hats
  • scarfs
  • coats
  • boots
  • sweat pants
  • swear shirts
  • Warm socks

Don't have anything to donate? Consider purchasing inexpensive winter items (kid sized) at local stores such as Target or Kohls. Items will start arriving late July.

Other Ways To Help

Donate to Abused Women's Shelter

Help abused women get back on their feet through your donations of gift cards for Target and other local stores.

Time Commitment

None

Items Needed

gift cards for Target, Kmart & Walmart.
(NOTE: Cannot accept in-kind donations due to lack of storage space)

How To Make a Donation

Specified items may be left at participating places of worship in late July and early August or brought to St. Thomas à Becket Church, 1421 Wiehle Avenue, Reston, on Sunday, August 19th between 1 pm & 3 pm.

Donate to Laurel Learning Center

The kids at Laurel Learning Center have good care-givers, a safe place to play and a chance to be with friends.  But they don't have enough juce boxes, soccer balls or Playdough.  The infants need baby wipes, and the older kids need band-aids and bactine to fix their childhood cuts and scrapes.

You can help by donating supplies to this long-time haven for needy kids -- right in our own backyard.  A complete list of needed items is shown below and you can click on the link below for a printable version.

Gabriel Homes Maintenance

Pick up your tools and bring your work gloves.   We need about 50 volunteers to help cleaning up and fixing things at 3 Gabriel Homes residences for adults with intellectual disabilities.  Join us as we wash windows,  clean kitchens, mulch, plant, repair a deck, and generally fix up homes for those who cannot do it themselves.
